Need proof of the increased emphasis among car buyers on fuel economy? Check out the latest figures from General Motors.
The American carmaker is expecting to post in excess of 100,000 units sold of the 12 GM vehicles that are rated with 30mpg or more, during March. That will be the highest total in the company’s history.
Just three years ago, only around 16 per cent of GM vehicles sold had ratings of 30mpg or more. Now, that number has increased to around 40 per cent.
According to Mark Reuss, who is the president of GM North America, the increased emphasis on fuel economy is reflective of the company’s investments in four-cylinder and turbocharged engines; as well as vehicle electrification and advanced transmissions.
GM’s focus on fuel economy is expected to continue into the future too – by the end of 2012, it will have new versions of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac cars available including: an all-new Chevrolet Spark (pictured), a four-cylinder Chevrolet Malibu and an all-new Cadillac ATS; all of which will be able to achieve 30mpg or more.
